Nothing but Nets

I posted about the Nothing but Nets program awhile back.  It is a very important effort to end needless suffering and deaths by Malaria.  There are many ways that you can get involved to end this needless suffering.  If you haven't been to the site, please check it out here.

WOWZER this is the COOLEST THING!

A friend of mine, Kat, told me about Freecycle.  She said, "It was created by a man named Deron Beal out of Tucson, AZ. It was his idea to give things away for free instead of sending the tangible item to the dump! It is now a world wide movment!"  You place an OFFER on a yahoo mail group.  When people want the item they reply to you and you set up a meeting point.  Everyone should join their local chapter at www.freecycle.org .

Well, I had the MOST fun with this today. We gave away our piano to the nicest family. The dad made my day. He said that his parents always had a piano and it made him feel like he was not doing as well for his children that he could not give him one. His son came with him and he is my dd's age and already plays the violin and other instruments and he was thrilled to get "his" piano. He was so helpful trying to get it loaded up. Now, is there ever anything better in life than making someone's day???

Kilowat Ours

Last Sunday, I watched an amazing documentary on energy usage and conservation.  I was totally moved by the video and have already modified some of my personal consumption of energy.  What I liked about the documentary was that it not only showed the extent of the problem but what normal every day people like you and me can do about it. 

Part of the solution can be to use compact fluorescent light bulbs.  Walmart is currently doing a campaign (at a profit loss for them) to encourage us to use these energy saving bulbs.  So, if you want to know more about Walmart's change a light, change the world program go here.
