This is a page I made last night. I was asked how I am able to make all those things look like they go together. It is still questionable if I was able to bring it all together cohesively but I thought I would share some tips I have gathered. The first book I read on using pattern was by Ali. It is an awesome book. I encourage anyone interested in this topic to read her book.
Second, you will notice that I outline and doodle a lot. When I use my pen on every piece on the LO I am automatically bringing the items together. So, one tip is to use the same color pen on each element.
The next tip is to use similar patterns. There are polka dots on the black, red, white, pink and cream elements here. That helps to bring all those colors together with some cohesion.
Use a border. When I "framed" the page with the white cardstock, it gave the page a better sense of cohesion.
Use items that tell the story. Sometimes, I have items on a page just because they look good, not because they symbolize something. On this page, that has all these different colors going on, it was important that everything on the page mean something symbolically. Each item on the tells a part of the story I am trying to tell...that my husband makes my heart flutter.
Do you have tips to add? I would love to hear them. :)
